SecuDroid as System App – Survive a Full WIPE
Installing SecuDroid as a system App will make it survive a full wipe, thus allowing us to recover our phones even if a thief restores it to factory defaults.
Follow these instructions using an app like Root Explorer on a rooted phone in order to install SecuDroid as a system app:
- Move SecuDroid into phone memory from "Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> eNotes"
- Mountfilesystemas RW (read and write permissions)
- From Root Explorer, select SecuDroid APK in /data/app (com.secserv.secudroid-1.apk)
- Move it to /system/apps
- Check permissions (User: read, write) (Group: read) (Others: read)
- Reboot your phone
Please, note that since SecuDroid will now be installed on a Read-Only filesystem, you won't be able to upgrade the app directly from the Market and you'll have to do it manually repeating the above process every time you get a new version.
A good point of having SecuDroid installed this way is that you can perform a full wipe to protect your sensitive data and still have SecuDroid running so you'll be able to track it
Also, as system app SecuDroid won't show up in the installed applications list and it's not uninstallable!
Thanks to our friend Pere for sending us the instructions above
